NOTE: A formal audit of 2014 numbers has not yet been conducted. **Emergency Services, Behavioral Health, Surgical Services, Transplant Program As we sat down to write this letter, we thought about what we wanted to tell you about the last year and we asked each other, "What do you remember most from 2014?" Of course we talked about how it's been a busy year of growth, new beginnings, and oppor- tunity at Swedish and the Foundation alike. But then we asked each other, "What's that one thing; that one moment that makes you smile when you think about last year?" For both of us, it's not just one thing, but a compilation of moments: moments shared with patients. They tell us how they were scared when they learned they needed our help; but how they found hope in the hands of a tenacious physician and a thoughtful care team; and how thanks to the care they received, they can get on with living life. We hear joyous stories of new life entering the world, like that of Killian Powell who was the first baby born at a Swedish birthing center in 2014, and the 9,441 newborns that fol- lowed him last year. Or we hear from patients like Dawn Dotson, who after being diagnosed with cancer had little hope for life. But after joining a new clinical trial at Swedish, she's planning her life again. Then there's Don Elliget, whose end-stage liver disease was so advanced that he was told to prepare for hospice. But thanks to the tenacity of his caregivers, he now has a healthy new liver and was seen walking around our Seattle campus just three weeks after his transplant. We owe these moments — and the smiles on our faces and those of our patients — to you. Because you believe in us and our mission, we are able to provide safe, life-changing care to those who need us, when and where they need us, most. Thank you for making stories like these, and so much more, possible. from the FOUNDATION Lida Buckner Chair Foundation Board of Governors 12 I M P A C T S P R I N G 2 0 15 Cancer: $ 3,583,207 Other care services**: $ 2,733,760 Neuroscience: $ 1,499,062 Marsha Rivkin Center: $ 1,076,243 Heart: $ 592,972 * Greatest need: $ 586,551 Women & Children: $ 381,219 Nursing and Medical Education: $ 249,756 Community/Patience Assistance: $ 147,735 Art/Other: $ 26,689 2014 Foundation Financial Results *: $ 10,877,194 Individual current gifts: $ 5,407,859 Foundations: $ 947,005 Gifts in-kind: $ 1,153,553 Individual planned gifts: $ 527,301 Corporations/Organizations: $ 2,841,476 50% 26% 10% 9% 5% Donations by source Funds raised by service Lorna Kneeland Interim President Swedish Medical Center Foundation
